Music has been a part of my life forever. As a kid, I was raised on Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and other classical albums. I also sung the church hymns of time past when I went to church. I will never forget the Christmas after I turned ten: I got a student guitar with a sunburst finish! I played that thing all the time. It was not long after that when I was introduced to modern music. A boy down the street showed me his Kiss album. I was impressed with the wild makeup and the heavy rock sound. From then on, the floodwaters of music broke. I grew up listening to Van Halen, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Dokken, and other rock groups. I fell in love with the bass guitar, and learned to play the piano at age 15. I never did learn to read music well. Today, I like groups like Disciple, Pillar, Third Day, Decyfer Down, Plumb, and many other groups. I like praise and worship, Christian alternative, and Christian pop. I can appreciate many styles of contemporary music. I am happily married to the most wonderful woman in the world, Lisa, and have two wonderful children, Joshua and Carrie. When I was sixteen, I had already begun to experience the darker side of rock 'n' roll. I got in too deep. One day I found myself in the hospital face-to-face with God. I felt his presence in the room with me. At that point, I surrendered my life to him and asked him to come into my life and take over. I already knew that God sent his only Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. But until then, I did not trust him as my Lord and Savior. I am glad I did. My music now has purpose. Music's primary purpose is to glorify God. I believe it can be entertainment, too. There are great secular songs out there that I like. But when I make a song, I want God to be glorified through it, even if I write for entertainment. I am now the lead pastor of Warren Hills Christian Church, located on the east side of Indianapolis. I am ordained as a Vineyard pastor and have a deep desire to bring others to Christ. I use any spare time I have with my family and my music. God's purpose for my life is to know him and love him, to love others, to mature in Christ, to find ways to minister to others, and to bring people to Jesus Christ through personal devotion, spending time with my family and church, and involvement in the lives of others. My goals are to live a long and healthy life, to be the best husband and father I can be, bring someone to Christ each week, grow as a pastor, and be productive in my life and music. |
